Built in 1910 as a place to welcome and entertain tourists to the thermal spa village of Matlock Bath, the Grand Pavilion stands on the site of the Fishpond Hotel’s original stable block. Over the years the Pavilion has played host to theatre productions, parties, gatherings, and in recent times concerts, night clubs and even an ice-skating rink! The Building is now owned by the Friends of the Pavilion charity, who’s aim it is to renovate this amazing place to it’s former glory.
The Grand Pavilion is situated in one of the most haunted villages in Derbyshire. There have been many reports of spirits around the building, including children running around the corridors, a lady peering out of the upstairs window looking for her husband returning from the war, and Mr Buxton – creator of Derwent Gardens – wandering the site with his springer spaniel dog. There have also been reports of the spirits of two workmen in the Dome, who were killed in an accident when the Pavilion was being built, plus a gentleman spirit who likes the ladies! Poltergeist activity is common, and unexplained noises – such as footsteps and breathing – have been known to frequently occur.
Prepare to be Scared!!!
