New to Haunted Company – The Old Bate Hall Public House! Join our in-house international medium Andrew Elson and our Team for a night of investigation and hauntings around Macclesfield town centre ending in what we believe to be the first ever full Paranormal Investigation of this mysterious venue!
Meeting outside the old Bate Hall at 7.15pm, Andrew will take you on a spooky journey around the local area where you will hear about the history and hauntings of town, and try your hand at finding the various local hot-spots using our investigative equipment. Returning to the Bate Hall for a light buffet, we will then split into smaller groups and proceed to investigate the various rooms of this fantastic location. Throughout the night you will get full use of our equipment, from traditional dowsers, spirit boards and scrying mirrors to the more modern emf meters, voice recorders and hi-tech camera-pad systems. You will also take part in various workshops such as human pendulums and séance. What will we find on our first ever visit to one of the towns oldest and reportedly most haunted buildings? This 16th century building was previously home to the Earl of Courtown and was once home to the Stopford family and other parliamentarians. Oliver Cromwell is recorded as staying here on several occasions. Subsequently the Bate Hall was licensed as an Inn in 1810 and has remained as such since. Inside you will find many original features such as beautiful old oak beams, the fine Jacobean staircase and an old Priest Hole which used to hide men of the church during the period when Catholics were persecuted by law in England.
A ghostly young woman who was hanged as a witch is said to roam the building. During a previous psychic investigation, it was discovered that the witch had been pursued by an angry mob, and after trying to take refuge at the Bate Hall, she was dragged inside and was hanged from the banisters by the occupants. There have also been reports of a Grey Lady, who has been somewhat shy, and resisted all attempts to tell her story. What more will we discover? What other spirits haunt this mysterious location? We can’t wait to find out!
